What We Do

In northern Thailand, many Hilltribe communities face significant challenges including poverty, limited access to education, or risks of exploitation. For over 30 years, IMEMF has been working to address these critical needs by empowering children, families, and communities through our comprehensive programs. Today, we operate three core programs to empower hilltribe people.

IMEMF seeks to address the root causes in a holistic way. Our strategy is to have programs focused on PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, and EDUCATION.

Strong families raise

strong children,

We help families to be strong and self-sustainable.

PREVENTION: THE FAMILY OF LOVE PROGRAM

It starts with prevention. We believe that the single most important factor in preventing trafficking is a strong and healthy family. Children are vulnerable because families are vulnerable. This is why we invest in families. Families provide love, identity, belonging, and culture to a child. Eliminating vulnerability, risk, and exploitation all begins with family. Our Family of Love program was specifically created to address the core challenges many Hilltribe families face that make them vulnerable: persistent poverty and a profound loss of hope.

Family of Love program activities include:

  • An 18 month family education course covering topics such as budgeting, positive parenting, hygiene, and sustainable livelihoods.
  • Activity-based workshops to introduce lessons.
  • Weekly home visits from coaches to reinforce workshop lessons.
  • “Family Fun Days” to remind families of the joy of being together.
  • A dedicated team of family coaches

Every child needs

a safe place,

We work with families to keep children safe. As a last resort, we can provide a safe place.

INTERVENTION: THE HOUSE OF LOVE PROGRAM

For families facing escalating challenges, the House of Love provides crucial intervention. While the House of Love has its roots as an orphanage, this was always a tool we employed in the larger purpose of keeping children safe. Today, the House of Love continues this mission with a personalized approach: a case-management process to keep children safe while they are still within their families, and for cases where no other safe option remains, a nurturing youth home providing a secure environment. Whether children are in family care or residing at the Youth Home, our purpose remains consistent: to keep children safe.

House of Love program activities:

  • A case-management program for children in crisis.
  • A nurturing youth home providing a safe residential option for children without other safe alternatives.
  • Professional social work support and guidance.
  • Community awareness campaigns and speaking engagements at local tribal churches to promote child protection.

Every child deserves

a chance,

We help children get into school and stay in school.

EDUCATION: THE HOUSE OF BLESSING PROGRAM

Quality child education stands as one of the most effective strategies to prevent child trafficking and exploitation. Schools offer children a consistent, nurturing environment; provide caring adults who monitor their well-being and attendance; and inspire them to dream about a brighter future. If a child can attend school and stay in school, the chances of being trafficked drop significantly. The House of Blessing begins with community engagement: our teachers make regular home visits to Hilltribe communities to connect with families about the value of education. At the preschool, children learn to speak, read, and write in Thai as well as other age-appropriate lessons. After graduation, students may be eligible for a scholarship to help offset the costs of education and remove a barrier to staying in school.

Activities at the House of Blessing:

  • Anubaan years 1-3
  • School supplies
  • Loving teachers and support staff
  • Home visits by the teachers
  • Family workshops and seminars
